Mirror ball close-up

Whilst taking little jog last week around the Jardins de Luxembourg in Paris, I was grounded to a halt by a giant disco ball in the middle of the path. I’m not usually into installation art but this was hard to miss, and was literally the size of a house!! Since nobody else seemed to be taking a second glance, I figured maybe this was just an everyday thing in France. You never can tell with the French after all…

It all made sense a few days later, however, when on Saturday night I spotted a beaming light sweeping over Paris. The ginormous 7.5m mirror ball was suspended over the Palais de Lux on a crane, lit with five DCA projectors (see below - sadly my iPhone camera did not do it justice). It was Nuit Blanche, where on the first Saturday of October, the City has an all-nighter arts and music festival. Sure to be a Guinness record, the artist responsible is Michel de Broin.
