Product photographer Frederik Lieberath has an incredible attention to detail. (And a good burst mode on his camera).

Timothy Saccenti has recently had a website overhaul courtesy of design studio Build.
When Build are faced with the challenge of designing a new website, they really do grab hold of web browsers and show them who’s boss. They own the digital space through a unique approach to interaction design, offering a new perspective on what modern day browsers are capable of.

To see more of Build’s digital work, check out Jason Tozer’s website. Oh hello cascading style sheets.

Amazing.

I first met Nick Bax, Founder of Human Studio, immediately after graduating. After a frantic few weeks of putting together a concoction of work that was in no way commercially viable, I managed to grab a few minutes of Nick’s time to show him through my work. It was here that I realised the benchmark I must set myself, an inspiring studio focused on creating beautifully crafted work and not afraid to push the boundaries.

So two years on it seems Human are moving forward with a sophisticated website and some new high-end fashion clients, whilst maintaining a sense of that ‘tDR’ aesthetic with their continuing work for Dubfire.

Dumpoke

Casting my mind back to our ‘VS’ event in the heartland of Shoreditch last month, we came across a passionate group of individuals who combine forces to form Dumpoke. (I’m thinking like Megazord from Power Rangers but better). In their own words, in one sentence, they exist as “a steamed dish consisting of boned and stuffed meat and like putting a meal together, each member contributes their own original ingredient to make what we deem a very tasty dish”.

Their experimental and fun-loving collaborative approach was exactly what we fancied to spruce up the website, and thus we approached them to create a range of banners. When Simon from Dumpoke came back with the designs and showed us the ShellsuitZombie cushion, there was some fully furnished love resonating from the SSZ mansion. Below is a collection of their masterpieces, two of which we selected for use on our site!

“during the ‘VS’ event they made me feel comfortable and what does a cushion do? Make you feel comfortable”. Explains Simon.

The Girls
The Girls are re-emerging British artists Andrea Blood (1975, UK) and Zoe Sinclair (1976, UK), whose collaboration began in 1996 at Central Saint Martins. The duo are now working together on a project set for the new year, which will feature much of that mystery, nostalgia, make-believe and dream like character the rest of their work accomplishes so well. We’ll post more on this soon!

Featured project: The Embodied Soul Passes Through Girlhood to Death

Nicola Woowat just graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with BA(Hons) Graphic Design. We bumped into her at New Blood where she handed over one of her floppy business cards made from latex and acryclic-based inks. Using the same experimental method, Nicola produced a poster series. We got in touch to ask more about the process.

“For the poster I etched my design into a large single sheet of acrylic using the laser cutter, this had to be the same dimensions as the poster as I had to do it all in one go. I etched the design in reverse for it to come out the right way round from the mould. I mixed my latex, which is a liquid, with my colour, I used acrylic ink, and then poured it over the sheet of acrylic- I needed a lot of it! I had to pour it right up to the edge of the acrylic sheet to cover the area, so it needed to be in a DIY card box to stop it flowing everywhere (which had happened in previous attempts!) Then I just needed to wait for it to set, peel it
off the acrylic carefully and cover it in talcum powder front and back to stop it sticking together.” Click here to see more of Nicola’s work.

Great work from Eskimo Square.

Final Gathering, HDRI, Global Illumination… Yes, 3D rendering if you hadn’t guessed. Go grab a Frappuccino and a Maya manual and get stuck into some 3D.

GOLDEN
SoYo’s DR, otherwise known to human beings as ‘South Yorkshire’s Designers Republic’, saw many designers pass through its Sheffield doors and setup their own studios: Build, Universal Everything, Human, Sanderson Bob, and Yolo to name a few. And now the most recent GOLDEN. Although there is little to display, the holding page promises much, much more.
